Natureworks offers a wide selection of gardening and nature books here at our retail store. When teaching classes or setting up vendor booths at off site events, we always bring books to sell. Our Winter Class Brochure lists many recommended books for students to study when taking classes. These books can be purchased in advance and are brought on the day of the class for the students. When we give garden walks or free workshops under the tent during the growing season, we always display and sell the books that we recommend for the topic we are dealing with that day.
One of our most exciting book categories are our children’s books. We have a dedicated section of our retail store devoted to gardening with your kids! We believe that the future of our planet lies with our children. Therefore, we carry nature coloring books, sticker books, the always-popular Cat in the Hat series (My, oh My a Butterfly!, I Can Name 50 Trees Today!, and Oh Say Can You Seed?). We regularly stock the Flower Fairies books, Fancy Nancy books, and classics such as The Secret Garden and Miss Rumphius.
Another large category of books that we sell are those dealing with growing your own food. Because we are so committed to organic food production, we offer a wide range of titles including our basic reference manual The Vegetable Gardener’s Bible, a local treasure written by Sal Gilbertie Small Plot- High Yield Garden, and Roz Creasy’s newly revised Edible Landscaping. We stock books about growing fruits, herbs, and heirloom vegetables.
Natureworks has been gardening organically since our beginnings in 1983. We are 100% committed to teaching our customers how to raise their own food organically. Therefore, we carry the latest, cutting edge books on identifying pests and diseases and controlling weeds using organic methods. We also stock books that deal with organic soil building, composting, organic lawn care, and pest problems of ornamentals.
In her work as a garden writer and lecturer, Nancy has met many other garden writers and seen them speak. Because of this, she is constantly on the lookout for their newest books to expand her customer’s garden horizons. Her favorite authors include Rick Darke, Elliot Coleman, Stephanie Cohen, Bill Cullina, Ken Druse, Sydney Eddison, Tracy Disabato-Aust, and Michael Dirr. Occasionally, Natureworks will carry books by local CT authors and a limited number of signed copies will be available. Recent local authors who have visited our store include Karen Bussolini (Elegant Silvers) and Patricia Klindienst (The Earth Knows My Name). Signed copies of Nancy’s self published book Succession of Bloom in the Perennial Garden are always available at the store.
Our goal for the future development of this website is to be able to offer you the opportunity to purchase books on line. At this time, however, we do not have a secure e-commerce site set up. If you would like to purchase books, please visit our store, see us at an off-site event, or contact us to discuss your book needs. You may also download, print, and fax or mail the class registration form with your book order or download, print, and fax or mail your order for Nancy’s Succession of Bloom book which can be mailed to you for an added shipping and handling fee.
