12 Dec Hand Made. Hand Decorated. Hand Selected. It’s Personal.
I’ve got to “hand it” to my staff, they sure know how to create magic at this time of year. It all started months ago, when they carefully selected the containers, ribbons,
gifts, candles, and ornaments that we would be carrying in the shop. In the summer we were ordering Amaryllis bulbs and jars for forcing. In September we were finalizing our orders for fresh cut, CT grown Christmas trees. And now, every single day of the week, we are making things by hand, decorating things by hand, and hand selecting our newly arrived air plants, succulents, and unusual houseplants. With us, everything we do is personal. It means so much to put our own signature touch on our offerings. We have so many talented designers on staff, and they all put their heart and soul into everything they make.
Wait until you come in for a visit this week. It looks so pretty, inside and out. I couldn’t wait to get back to Natureworks after my day off and see all of the new creations. This is a very busy week for us, when a lot of our custom orders get made. In between, we are continuing to stuff the shelves in the shop and the walls of the nursery yard with fresh arrangements, wreaths, porch pots, and swags.
Earlier this week, Diane hand selected tons of beautiful succulents and really
amazing air plants at a CT greenhouse grower. We have had so many requests for air plants this season- we heard you and they are here! We will be playing with all of our plants for the next two weeks, planting up terrariums, indoor gardens, and putting together houseplant collections. What better gift can you give than a winter windowsill filled with beauty and life?
Tune in this Thursday afternoon for anotherNatureworks Video. I am going to explain all about using roping indoors and out. Roping is also called garland. We have a new supplier this year and it is fatter and fuller than we have ever seen. We dip all of our fresh roping in WiltPruf to keep it fresher longer. We also embellish this already gorgeous roping with more unusual fresh cut evergreens, pine cones, berries, birds… you name it. We wrap it around our sign post, lamp post, and around our door. We are starting to take orders for custom mantel roping that can be placed inside and decorated with candles, a nativity scene, or any of your favorite holiday treasures. Learn the ins and outs of measuring, hanging, and using this gorgeous garland by tuning into Facebook or watching the video on our Natureworks YouTube channel.
It’s not too late to order Natureworks Gift Certificates to be mailed to your friends and family. We do this the old fashioned way- a pretty, hand-written actual gift certicate sent by US mail. You can easily order on line, just do sosoon if you aren’t coming in to pick it up at the shop. If you ARE coming in to the shop to pick up your gift certificates, why not toss in a pair of CT Flower and Garden Show tickets (yes, we sell discounted tickets right here all month long) and a set of high quality hand tools or a book for the avid gardener in your life? We have all of them ready to go. One of our most popular garden tools is, believe it or not, a flame weeder!
As December rolls along, we start getting in more and more fresh flowers to add to our arrangements. It is so special for us, as we don’t sell cut flowers the rest of the year. But in November and Decembers, we have a blast!
Did you know that you can place orders for your holiday centerpiece, buffet table,
side board, and even individual arrangements to give to friends? You can order terrariums hand made to fit a specific theme. You can order indoor gardens with flowering plants and foliage plants too. You can order succulent arrangements. We LOVE to create things especially for our customers. If you are at a loss for what to give, ask for our help. We enjoy it and it’s personal for us. We think everyone should give the gift of nature in some form or another…
What we do here is the REAL DEAL. Everyone says “it smells so good in here” because it does- the scent of real balsam fir, real pine, real spruce fills the air. My landscape crews harvest truck loads of greens from my yard each week. Diane harvests greens from her yard. We harvest from the Natureworks gardens. Many of our succulents and all of our very special, hand-selected poinsettias are CT grown. It all adds up to an authentic experience that you will look forward to every year.
So don’t get all stressed out. Instead, place one of our extremely cute, smiling, fuzzy sheep ornaments on your desk or dashboard, or hang it on your tree, and then smile. Together, we got this. Let’s get back to our roots. Celebrate the winter solstice- the light starts to return right after that! Yay! Let the scents and sights of nature be your inspiration. Embrace the looks of pure delight when you present someone with a hand made, hand decorated, hand selected gift from your favorite small, local business (that would be us!). Connections. It helps to make this all a lot more meaningful.
So make tracks to Natureworks this week and see what I am talking about. I’ll be in the greenhouse design studio, sap-encrusted fingers flying, surrounded by my fellow Natureworkers as we work on making this world a lot more beautiful at this time of year.
