It’s Flower Show Week!

It’s Flower Show Week!

After suffering through the coldest winter weekend of 2016, I am thrilled to be heading up to the CT Convention Center in Hartford for the Flower and Garden Show this Thursday through Sunday. Actually, my staff and I will be spending the entire week there, setting up our booth and getting ready in the early part of the week, selling at the booth and teaching workshops through Sunday at

closing. Many of my colleagues in the industry will be giving workshops including my buddy Stephanie Cohen, author of The Perennial Garden Design Primer and many other great books. Some of you may have caught our “comedy act” at the UConn Garden Conference a few years ago when we talked about tall and short plants. I will be giving a workshop on Saturday and on Sunday. There will be so many great speakers including Tovah Martin, Mar Jennings, Lorraine Ballato, Kathy Connelly, Marci Martin, and Kerry Ann Mendez to name a few.

Stephanie Cohen will be speaking at the flower show this Saturday!

Our booth is directly across from the Federated Garden Clubs display. That is SO much fun, checking out all the judged flower arrangements and specimen plants on display. There will be lots of beautiful landscape gardens as well as aisle after aisle of vendor booths. Mother Nature appears to be cooperating with much warmer weather in the forecast for the show. Don’t miss this official rite of passage from winter into spring. It will make you VERY happy.

Once the flower show ends, I will be right back in my home office getting ready for our All Day Seminar on Saturday, February 27th- A Landscape for All Creatures. It’s only $35 for an all-day pass, which includes SIX workshops. I am SO excited about this day. We are already getting lots of registrations. Remember, you can register on line which makes the process very easy. If you have a new home, or have never really given serious thought to how your yard

should be organized, these workshops will assist you in figuring out how to create an oasis for you, your family and friends, and the birds, bees, butterflies, hummingbirds, and wildlife.

Our 2016 Incredible Edibles Listis ready! Natureworker Susan Sternberg worked very hard to put together a wonderful list of organic vegetable seedlings as well as organic seed potatoes, fruit plants of all sorts, and more. We have limited amounts of many of the specialty items, so study the list

and put in your order before things get too crazy around here. Click here to download the list.  Click here to download the order form. Our retail store opens on March 20th, the first day of spring. We will have our seed racks restocked by then ( I expect them to be stripped bare at the flower show…) and all the supplies you will need to have a fabulous, productive edible garden and landscape in the growing season ahead.

Our Incredible Edibles List is ready! Get your order in early this year!

I am sure you have been spending more time than usual at your computers because of the severely cold weather. Our Natureworks Facebook page has been buzzing with activity and Diane and I are posting beautiful photographs all the time. You should also check out the CT Flower and Garden Facebook page. We are one of a few businesses featured that offer really valuable prizes if you like their page and share it with three friends. Our prize is valued at $200!

So hang in there my friends. Don’t stay home, don’t let the cold, snow, ice, and rain get you down. You will find spring in Hartford this week at the flower show. Then, plan on joining together with fellow gardeners and attend many of the Natureworks classes in the coming month. That is a surefire way to make winter melt away.

See you soon…
